Biography

Hear the trio

Trio Abril was formed in autumn 2021. The ensemble develops repertoire for two saxophones and piano through original works, transcriptions and new commissions.

The trio made its debut in Naarden in October 2022 with the premiere of Guillermo Lago’s Energía. It has since performed in the Netherlands and abroad, including at the World Saxophone Congress in Gran Canaria in 2023.

Alongside transcriptions of composers including Poulenc and Piazzolla, the trio performs works written for the ensemble by Guillermo Lago, Santiago Báez, Carlos Micháns and Klaas de Vries. Four commissioned works and Jun Nagao’s Paganini Lost make up the programme of the forthcoming album, with a companion book about the music and its composers.
